Eight Head Bottle Capper,
or more cappers are rotary chuck style cappers designed with eight or
more chucks around a rotating container handling disc. Rotary cappers
have a rotating disc to carry the containers around the machine as the
chucks tighten the caps onto the containers. The containers enter once
side of the rotating disc and are timed onto the disc underneath a
chuck. Once the container has been capped, the container discharges
from the rotary capper on the other side of the machine.
Rotary cappers are sometimes referred to as continuous motion because
the capper does not stop the motion of the containers as the capper
takes the containers in and caps them. The speed of a rotary capper is
limited by the top speed of the rotary disc. Most rotary discs are
limited to a top speed of approximately 12 revolutions per minute.
However, by increasing the size of the rotary disc and by adding more
capping heads and chucks, more containers can be processed per single
revolution of the rotary disc, thereby increasing the output of the
rotary capper.
Similarly to other types of rotary chuck style capper, eight head
chuck style rotary cappers are designed with chucks to tighten the
caps onto the container. The eight head rotary cappers are designed to
transfer the cap to be placed onto the container to the chuck.
(Different capper designs have different designs for the cap transfer
to the chuck.) The chuck holds the cap until the cap is tightened onto
the container. Once the proper amount of torque is applied to the cap,
the chuck will release the cap.
Chucks are designed with different mechanisms for “sensing” the proper
amount of torque and for releasing the cap. Chuck designs usually use
either mechanical or pneumatic forces to “sense” the appropriate
torque and release the cap. The chucks are sized specifically for the
size cap that they are tightening, but chucks are change parts and can
be changed to accommodate different size caps.
