Pellet Mill - A pellet mill
is a continuous means for forming a pellet (cylindrical shaped
products in a variety of sizes from a few mm to 1 inch pieces. Product
is fed into the center of the pellet mill and it is pushed through a
ring with the required diameter of pellets to be formed. As the
product exits through the ring it is cut off with an external knife to
the desired length.

There are many different names that are used to describe particle size
reduction: milling, grinding, granulating, comminuting, etc. Milling
systems can size reduce wet or dry powders. Their are variable speed
drives that permit low speed screening and high speed impacting with
one milling system.
A typical milling system consists of an inlet
chamber with a rotor screen and an outlet. The particle size depends
upon the speed of the rotor, rotor type, screen hole size and the feed
rate of the product. High shear granulation turns powders into dense
granules for tableting or coating. Powders are added to a mixing bowl.
A large impeller spins the powders into a vortex. A chopper tool
shears the granules and removes the air. The granulated product is
dried in the mixing bowl or fluid bed dryer.
